ACCESS Trades sponsors a broad range of certified trades programs to create a diverse and skilled workforce throughout the urban Aboriginal community. We constantly strive to provide our clients with the best training available. Through our programs ACCESS clients have embarked on long-term careers that are fulfilling and financially rewarding. Marine Fitter Level I October 3 2016 October 21 2016 BCIT The Level I Marine Fitter program is designed for people interested in a career in the shipbuilding industry. To be eligible you must be a minimum first year Boilermaker or Metal Fabricator. Apply through ACCESS employment services.
Metal Fabrication/Marine Fitter Level I September 6 2016 April 21 2017 ITA-Service Canada ACCESS ESAF-BCIT Grade 12 preferred but will consider applicants who have completed minimum of grade 10. Contact counsellor in your area to determine your eligibility. Must be unemployed or working less than 20 hours a week and not eligible for EI. Includes 8 weeks of essential skills, metal fabrication foundation and marine fitter level 1.
Construction Safety Officer August 22 2016 September 2 2016 BCIT Must have equivalent to grade 11 and 1 year of construction experience. Successful completion of a foundation program will be considered an equivalent. Program now closed.

Carpentry Foundation May 26, 2014 December 19, 2014 Funded through the Industry Training Authority Aboriginal Initiative and the CASA. Minimum grade 10. Must be LMA eligible. Contact counsellor to determine your eligibility.
Metal Fabrication 2nd Year Apprenticeship Training April 22, 2014 May 23, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance). Applicant must be a registered apprentice who has successfully completed Level I Metal Fabrication certification and have work based training hours.
Metal Fabrication Foundation April 22, 2014 November 24, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance). The Metal Fabrication Foundation program includes 8 weeks of essential skills upgrading and 23 weeks of technical training at the BCIT Willingdon Campus in Burnaby. Minimum education requirement is grade 10.
Welding Level III April 7, 2014 July 25, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance) Welding Level III is for welders who hold C level welding certification. This program will be delivered at the Pipefitters Industry College on Annacis Island.
Welding Foundation March 10, 2014 November 14, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance). The Welding Foundation program includes 8 weeks of essential skills upgrading and 28 weeks of technical training at the BCIT Willingdon Campus in Burnaby. Minimum education requirement is grade 10.
Crane Operation - 80 Tonne February 17, 2014 April 18, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance). The Crane Operation program includes 2 weeks of Essential Skills upgrading and 7 weeks of technical training at the BCIT Willingdon Campus in Burnaby. Must hold a valid driver's license and have a minimum grade 10 education.
Sheet Metal Foundation February 11, 2014 August 29, 2014 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance) The Sheet Metal foundation program includes 8 weeks of Essential Skills upgrading at our Essential Skills office in New Westminster and 23 weeks of technical training at BCIT.
Machinist Foundation September 23, 2013 May 16, 2014 The ITA Aboriginal Initiative and the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance) The Machinist foundation program includes 8 weeks of Essential Skills upgrading at our Essential Skills office in New Westminster and 25 weeks of technical training at BCIT. We are currently taking the names of people interested in this program.
Welding Level B September 3, 2013 December 20, 2013 Funded under the Federal SPF, Partners include FNES, CSETS and ACCESS under CASA (Coastal Aboriginal Shipbuilding Alliance) Welding Level B is for welders who hold C level welding certification. This program will be delivered at the Pipefitters Industry College on Annacis Island.
Electrical Foundation July 15, 2013 Feb 2014 ITA Aboriginal Initiative & BCIT This program includes 8 weeks of Essential Skills Training at our Essential Skills office in New Westminster starting on July 15, 2013 and ending on Sept 6, 2013. This will be followed up with 32 weeks of technical training at BCIT in Burnaby starting on September 9, 2013 and ending on May 2, 2014. For more information click here for brochure
Provincial Instructor Program for Red Seal Journey people April 23, 2013 March 31, 2014 Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada & Vancouver Community College This is a certificate program for people interested in eventually instructing their trade or occupation. The PID will be delivered part-time to accommodate people who are working. If you are interested please contact ACCESS Trades at 604-922-4077.
Piping Foundation April 29, 2013 December 21, 2013 Ministry of Advanced Education; Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center, Skill Plan and BCIT School of Construction. This program includes 8 weeks of Essentials Skills upgrading which will be delivered at the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Center by Skill Plan BC. Students will also complete 22 weeks of technical training at BCIT and a one week job club. Applicants require a minimum of grade 10, good math skills and a keen interest in completing a four year apprenticeship. For more information click here for brochure
Piping Foundation February 25, 2013 July 26, 2013 Service Canada & Piping Industry College of BC This program includes 4-weeks of Essential Skills Training at our Essential Skills office in New Westminster, BC starting on February 25, 2013 and ending on March 22, 2013. This will be followed up with 18 weeks of technical training at the Piping Industry College of BC at #101-1658 Foster's Way, Annacis Island in Delta, BC starting on March 25, 2013 and ending on July 26, 2013. Welding C Level October 18, 2010 June 17, 2011 BCIT Welding level C is an 8 month program which includes one month of Essential Skills upgrading. Applicants must have a minimum grade 10 education, be under skilled and/or underemployed, and/or not eligible for Employment Insurance benefits. This program is funded by the Industry Training Authority of BC through Federal-Provincial LMA funding.
